چکیده

The possibility of a dynamical core helium Ñash has been studied with two-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations using three separate turbulence models for the treatment of time-dependent convection. Two of these are simple algebraic eddy viscosity models. The third model involves a separate equation for the turbulent kinetic energy density, which then feeds into an expression for the eddy viscosity. One of the simple eddy viscosity models is that used by Cole & Deupree in studies of the core helium Ñash about Ðfteen years ago. I Ðnd that this model can be made to produce a more quiescent Ñash than Cole & Deupree found by substantially reducing the eddy viscosity from their value. When this is done, all three turbulence models produce the same primary resultÈthe Ñash does not produce a hydrodynamic event. However, the traditional assumption of adiabatic convection through the Ñash evolution is found in all cases to be inadequate, primarily through the extensive heating of the region interior to the convective region. Three Dimensional Simulations of the Core Helium Flash - with Rotation

We continue our study of the core helium flash using the three dimensional hydrodynamics code Djehuty. Continuing from earlier calculations, we now take relaxed 3D configurations and add various amounts of rotation. We find that rotation periods consistent with those observed in white dwarfs produce negligible changes in the structure and evolution of the core flash, at least for the very small...

Burst Neutrinos from Nitrogen Flash

Neutrinos give a novel probe to explore deep interior of astrophysical objects, which otherwise is not accessible with optical observations; among notable examples are solar and supernova neutrinos. We show that there is a new class of strong neutrino emission from helium burning, N + α → F + γ followed by beta decay F → O+ e + νe, that gives a maximum neutrino luminosity of 10 8 times the sola...

Influence of two updated nuclear reaction rates on the evolution of low and intermediate mass stars

Two key reactions of hydrostatic nuclear burning in stars have recently been revised by new experimental data – the N(p, γ)O and 3α reaction rates. We investigate how much the new rates influence the evolution of low-mass, metal-poor and metal-free, stars and of an intermediate-mass star of solar-type composition. We concentrate on phases of helium ignition or thermally unstable helium burning....

Impact of helium diffusion and helium-flash-induced carbon production on gravity-mode pulsations in subdwarf B stars

Context. Realistic stellar models are essential to the forward modelling approach in asteroseismology. For practicality however, certain model assumptions are also required. For example, in the case of subdwarf B stars, one usually starts with zero-age horizontal branch structures without following the progenitor evolution. Aim s. We analyse the effects of common assumptions in subdwarf B model...
